    What I’m Reading: April 2019

I’m not sure if y’all should even trust my reading opinions, as I just got an email informing me that the book that I suggested to my very conservative book club is filled with profanity. Attached were links to newspaper articles that summed up the true story instead. Whoops. (The book was Juniper: The Girl Who Was Born Too Soon by Kelley and Thomas French, in case you were wondering.) When I finished Pride and Prejudice in all its many forms, I was left with a period drama sized hole in my heart. As I searched “BBC” on Amazon Prime, I came across Middlemarch. I had heard of it before,…

    What I’m Reading: September 2018

September has been all about nonfiction, for whatever reason. Does anyone else find that their reading tends to group together like that? This first nonfiction on my list is The Radium Girls, by Kate Moore. I think a Buzzfeed article is what first tipped me off about this book’s existence. It’s about a group of women in the early 1900s, who worked for companies that used radium to paint watch dials. When radium was first discovered, doctors and scientists lauded it as a miracle cure. Radium was in lotions, drinks, hand creams. Everyone wanted radium. So, when the girls working in radium watch factories were told to use their mouths to point…

    What I’m Reading: August 2018

As y’all know, I recently took a vacation. I took advantage of my time away from writing books…to read books. I spent the majority of every day sitting by the pool or the beach, reading. It was the best vacation ever. Let’s talk about what I read! War Storm by Victoria Aveyard I loved Red Queen when I read it back in 2016. The world was unique and it stood out from the other YA dystopians cluttering the shelves. (Three possible love interests instead of two? Groundbreaking!) I pride myself on being able to call twists, but I was continually surprised by the shifting plotlines in Red Queen. Then came Glass Sword. Sigh. Mare followed…

    What I’m Reading: July 12th 2018

The last time I checked in to tell you my reading list, I was deep into young adult fantasy. I’ve adulted up quite a bit for this installment, which means that my reading material has been much more depressing. Intellectual stimulation and melancholy are synonymous, apparently. Let’s start with the most confusing of the books I read this month. My Sweet Audrina by V.C. Andrews came highly recommended to me by an internet person whom I can’t remember. The Goodreads synopsis was incredibly intriguing: V.C. Andrews, author of the phenomenally successful Dollanganger series, has created a fascinating new cast of characters in this haunting story of love and deceit, innocence and…

    What I’m Reading: May 25th, 2018

My book club read The Scarlet Letter this month. I hosted book club. I didn’t read the book. Have any of you read The Scarlet Letter? I had every intention of reading it. I’ve been meaning to try it again, ten years after my failed first attempt, but I just couldn’t put down the Throne of Glass series long enough to read anything else! My Goodreads list “want to read” list is almost 200 titles long. By the time I get to a book on that list, I’ve usually forgotten why it was on there in the first place. When I saw “A Court of Thorns and Roses” by Sarah J. Maas…
